Maggie "Nanny" McCoy
Maggie “Nanny” McCoy was born in 1894 in Muncie, Indiana. My great grandmother never made it past the 3rd grade, but could make a mean “home brew”. According to my grandma, she didn’t drink it much, though. She is pictured with her family second from the left, probably in 1927 – about the time she was boozing it.
My other great-grandma, Hazel Shimer, also had a knack for bootlegging and made bath tub gin. One time she thought the cops were knocking on her door and pulled the plug, but it was only a thirsty friend.
